The Australian Watercraft Registry is at the forefront of water safety and has been a driving force supporting people throughout Australia and the world with the AustWR I.D. Tag system and memberships.

Play with Purpose invites you to pick your sport or activity, register your interest, do your activity every day in May 2024 and gain sponsorship along the way. You get to increase your fitness, knowing that every day you’re helping to save lives on the water by supporting the Australian Watercraft Registry.

The company’s forefathers started commercially rescuing people in Queensland back in 1941, and now the third generation of this family built and run the Australian Watercraft Registry. It’s our dedication to the community, their safety, and our passion for the water that brings us to offer such a wonderful service to water sports lovers everywhere.

Easily you think this may not be an important piece, but let me explain why. In paddle sports, often in open water, there are obviously waves, sometimes they are more than a metre in height. Paddles of Surf ski's, Outrigger canoes, and other low sleek craft can often struggle to see a distance in front of them due to the conditions. As they pass one race buoy, it's important for their safety that they from a seated position can see the next race buoy so they have something to aim for, rather than guessing. Along a coast line is less difficult, many events we go to during the year are over 20km, some are 45 and 60km, some are in bays, some races depart a beach and the competitors race in a triangle or diamond pattern. Keeping everyone assured they are "on course" is a important safety factor.

9m Commercial rescue vessel in 2C Survey. $340,000

I spent 9 years working on this style of vessel saving lives and assisting broken down vessels. It's a workhorse. All of the paddle events are planned months in advance, and so much goes in to the planning, and with 100 - 700 paddlers attending such events, we don't get to plan for the weather. It's usually never flat, often 1.5 metres, and several times it's been 2.5 - 3 metres wave height. When you're the safety guy, there's no "I don't want too", or "it's to rough to save their life", you have to get out there fast and act. A vessel like this gives us a professional standard of equipment to act when required at a commercial standard.
